Tropical gardens at Krabi La Playa Resort

Partnering for a
Sustainable Future

We live and work beside one of Thailand's most beautiful coastlines, and we take our responsibility to protect it seriously. Our achievements include Travelife, Green Hotel, CF Hotel and SDGs certification, recognising our ongoing efforts to reduce our environmental footprint.

Our comprehensive Sustainability Programme is designed to minimise our environmental footprint across every part of the resort — measurable reductions in energy and water use, robust waste management, and responsible sourcing from local suppliers who share our commitment.

Our Certifications

Independent programmes that audit how we manage energy, water, waste and our impact on the community around us.

Our Sustainability Programme

Small, consistent actions across the resort add up to a meaningful difference for Krabi and the Andaman Sea.

Energy

  • All air-conditioning units are energy saving, and guest rooms have roof insulation to keep them cool.
  • Micro-switches on balcony doors switch the air-conditioning off when the door is opened.
  • During low season rooms are zoned to conserve energy and refrigerators are unplugged.
  • 80% of our light bulbs are LED; sensor switches and timers are installed in public areas.
  • Some lights are switched off during quiet hours, from midnight until 5am.
  • Complimentary bicycles are available for guests.

Water

  • Water aerators in all guest-room sinks and push-button taps in public areas.
  • Toilet cisterns are displacement-filled to conserve water with every flush.
  • Leftover drinking water from guest rooms is used to water the gardens.
  • Guests are invited to re-use linen and towels with in-room signage.

Eco-Procurement

  • More than 60% of our food ingredients are locally produced.
  • Seasonal fruit and vegetables — papaya, pineapple, watermelon, coconut, mango, rambutan and banana — are bought from nearby villagers.
  • We buy products without individual plastic wrapping.
  • Environmentally friendly cleaning supplies (ECOLAB, AMWAY) are used throughout.
  • We do not purchase or use any pesticide, insecticide, fungicide or herbicide containing persistent organic pollutants (POPs).
  • We prioritise sustainability-certified products such as FSC paper and fair-trade sugar.

Reducing Waste

  • Food waste: leftovers are collected for animal feed, used kitchen oil is recycled, and fruit peel, egg shell and coffee grounds become natural fertiliser.
  • We grow edible flowers in our garden, including Coral Vine, Torch Ginger, Bauhinia, Trumpet Tree and Butterfly Pea.
  • Plastic: glass water bottles in guest rooms, large dispensers for bath amenities, and single-use amenities only on request.
  • Biodegradable straws have replaced plastic straws since 1 November 2019.
  • Shopping bags crafted from used bed sheets and pillowcases, naturally dyed by the Klong Prasong Local Artisan Enterprise, are provided for guests.
  • Free drinking water is available in the lobby for guests who bring their own bottle.

Recycling & Upcycling

  • Room waste is separated and sorted by our housekeeping team for recycling.
  • Non-recyclable multi-layer plastic is repurposed into zippered bags and sold at the hotel — all proceeds fund environmental initiatives.
  • Stretchy plastics go to the Won Together programme; juice and milk cartons go to Thai Green Roof.
  • Our "ReCap" project, started in December 2024, turns single-use plastic caps into keyrings and fridge magnets, in collaboration with the Ao Nang Subdistrict Administrative Organization.
  • We use leaf plates to reduce single-use paper and plastic plates at catering events.
  • From 1 October 2025 our team uniforms are made from recycled fabrics.

Guest & Staff Engagement

  • Signage on light and air-conditioning switches invites guests to help save energy.
  • We invite guests to join us for Earth Hour every year, and run recycling and Thai food and culture activities.
  • We encourage reef-safe sunscreen, free from oxybenzone and octinoxate.
  • Staff communicate and file paperwork digitally to reduce paper use, and all staff use reusable bottles.
  • We grow organic vegetables at our staff house for the restaurant and staff canteen.
  • Shells carried back to rooms are returned to the sea, where they belong.

Community & Suppliers

  • We support the Trash Hero "trash zero" programme, sell Trash Hero bottles and bags, and sell upcycled sandals for the Tlejourn project.
  • We take part in regular beach clean-ups with Trash Hero, the Ao Nang Subdistrict Administrative Organization and the Hotel Association.
  • We join mangrove planting with local organisations.
  • Used furniture, computers and crockery in good condition are donated to nearby schools and temples; used duvets and towels go to Lanta Animal Welfare.
  • Suppliers deliver in baskets rather than single-use plastic bags, and we prioritise partners who share our environmental and ethical standards.
  • We recommend community-based tourism such as Ban Nai Nang, the beekeeping community enterprise.

Coming next: real-time energy monitoring, a solar roof, and Green Day rewards for guests who skip daily housekeeping.

Responsible Guest Guide

Simple actions you can take to support the people and places you visit. Every guest is part of the story.

Choose reef-safe sunscreen Some sun-protection ingredients seriously harm marine life and reefs — even when washed off in the shower. Please avoid oxybenzone, octinoxate, octocrylene and nano zinc oxide, and look for a marine-safe alternative.
Mind the temperature Heating and cooling is one of the biggest sources of emissions in any hotel. Please avoid adjusting the thermostat more than necessary, and let the air-conditioning switch off when the balcony door is open.
Use water thoughtfully Shorter showers, turning off the tap while brushing your teeth, and re-using your towels and linen all make a real difference on the Andaman coast.
Eat local, waste less Around a third of all food produced is never eaten. Ordering what you will finish and choosing local dishes over imported ones lowers both waste and emissions.
Skip single-use plastics Travel with a reusable bottle — refill it free at our lobby — and ask our team what can be recycled and how.
Support the local community Dine and shop with locally owned businesses, and look for handcrafted gifts made by local artisans rather than imported souvenirs.
Protect biodiversity Follow guidance in sensitive areas such as reefs, mangroves and dunes. Please take nothing away — shells and stones included — and leave nothing behind.
Respect people and wildlife Ask permission before photographing people, and avoid attractions where wild animals are fed, touched, or made to behave unnaturally.

Hotel Policies

The commitments that guide how we treat people, our community and the natural world around us.

Child Protection Policy

We are committed to safeguarding the well-being and rights of all children who use our services.

  • Zero tolerance for sexual abuse, physical harm, child labour or any harmful act against children, by staff or guests.
  • All staff follow a code of conduct prioritising child safety and receive regular training.
  • Clear reporting procedure: emergency services (191 / 1300), the Social Assistance Center hotline, and the Provincial Office of Social Development and Human Security.
  • Strict confidentiality and full cooperation with child-protection authorities.
Human Rights Protection and Respect Policy

We uphold the universal principles of human rights across our dealings with staff, guests, partners and the community.

  • Everyone is treated equally, without discrimination based on gender, race, religion, colour, age, disability, marital status or sexual orientation.
  • Specific protection for children, women, the elderly and persons with disabilities.
  • Zero tolerance for forced labour, servitude and human trafficking anywhere in our supply chain.
  • A safe, confidential channel to raise concerns without fear of retaliation.
Employee Commitment Policy

Every employee is the heart of our success, and we are committed to a fair, safe and supportive workplace.

  • Full compliance with Thai labour law, with fair and legally mandated wages.
  • A safe and hygienic working environment that meets all legal requirements.
  • Equal opportunity for training, development and career advancement.
  • Zero tolerance for harassment and abuse — verbal, physical or psychological.
Community Commitment Policy

Sustainable business goes hand in hand with being a responsible member of the community.

  • We prioritise hiring from the local community and buying from community businesses.
  • We support local agricultural produce, seafood and handicrafts.
  • We help preserve Krabi's art, culture and traditions, and showcase local artwork in the hotel.
  • We share knowledge with the community, including our ReCap recycling programme in local schools.
Biodiversity Conservation Policy

Krabi is biologically rich, and we conduct our business to protect and promote that biodiversity.

  • We plant native species that feed local birds, butterflies and pollinators, and avoid invasive species.
  • Hunting, capturing or feeding wild animals is prohibited in and around the resort.
  • We work with local authorities to protect and restore mangroves and coral reefs.
  • We train staff, inform guests, and invite participation in mangrove planting and beach clean-ups.
